About Stacey Van Riel

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming, especially if you’ve tried therapy before and are still struggling. I’m a psychotherapist with over seven years of clinical experience, and more than 15 years working in mental health, wellbeing, and relational support. I work with adults aged 16 and over, particularly people living with treatment-resistant anxiety and depression, trauma, emotional overwhelm, and long-standing patterns that often have roots in early relationships or neurodivergence.

My main approach is Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). Rather than asking you to push emotions away or “think differently,” EFT helps you understand what your emotions are trying to tell you and how to work with them safely. I also use neuroscience and a brain–body perspective to help make sense of emotional reactions; many clients find it reassuring to learn that their responses are not a personal failure, but a nervous system doing its best to cope.

I have extensive experience supporting people with trauma, including complex and developmental trauma. I work at a pace that prioritises safety, trust, and regulation. My practice is affirming and trans-inclusive, and I have particular experience working with LGBTQ2S+ and neurodivergent individuals. I’m also comfortable offering sex-therapy-informed support, including conversations around intimacy, sexuality, and relationships, in a respectful and non-judgemental way.

I began my career working with immigrant and newcomer communities, and as an immigrant living in the UK (temporarily) and someone who lives in a multi-faith household, I understand the emotional impact of navigating identity, belonging, and different cultural or belief systems. I aim to offer a collaborative, compassionate space where you don’t need to explain or defend who you are.

If you’re looking for therapy that goes beyond symptom management and supports deeper emotional understanding and change, you’re welcome to reach out to see whether working together feels like the right fit.
